Here is my go to recipe for homemade pizza dough, that I first found in a Betty Crocker Recipe Book. I make the dough with my Kitchen Aid stand mixer. It can me made by hand, but I find the dough to be lighter and softer using my mixer. | Yields one large pizza - 8 slices
Ingredients:
1 packet yeast (or rapid rise yeast)
1 cup warm water
1 Tbsp. sugar
2 Tbsp. vegetable oil
3 cups All Purpose flour
1 tsp. salt
Instructions:
Place contents of one yeast packet in the bottom of the mixing bowl. Add warm water and sugar to the yeast and allow to sit for a few minutes until bubbles form.
Add two tablespoons of vegetable oil and one cup of flour to the yeast mixture.
Using the beater attachment on the mixer, start mixing the ingredients in the bowl until they are combined.Change the attachment to the dough hook. Add remaining two cups of flour, and teaspoon of salt. Start the mixer on medium-low speed. Once the flour is incorporated, increase the speed to medium and knead the dough for about one minute. If the dough is sticking to the bowl, add a tablespoon of flour to the bowl and knead, adding more flour until it pulls away from the bowl. Once you have a nice dough formed, remove the dough hook.
Use your hands to form it into a ball of dough. Pour one teaspoon of flour over the dough. Turn the dough to coat with the oil.
Cover with plastic wrap and cover the mixing bowl with a clean tea towel. Allow to rise undisturbed for 30-40 minutes. Use dough for pizza.
Stretch dough to fit on pizza stone and top with crushed tomatoes or tomato sauce. top with pepperoni slices, sprinkle with 2 cups of shredded cheese, or Provolone slices.
Bake in preheated oven at 375°F for 25 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
Toppings I like to use:
1 (14.5 oz) can peeled whole tomatoes, break them up on pizza dough as your tomato base
red pepper flakes (optional),
garlic powder,
pepperoni slices,
shredded Italian cheese blend or Provolone cheese slices.
Bake at 375°F for 25 minutes or until hot and bubbly. Slice and enjoy!
